HOUSE MATTEN BALLENBERG 2020

Vitra newly furnished the “Matten house” in the Swiss Open-Air Museum Ballenberg, a project that builds a bridge between past and present, between pre-industrial artisanry and modern design. My furnishing proposal introduced a fresh flair into the “Matten house” that stands in lively contrast to the historical structure. The collaboration also reveals historical parallels to current values, such as durability and sustainability. These concepts were normal in rural households long before we had words for them.
